Liberal arts serve an important and indispensable part in furthering the Harbin Institute of Technology to become a world-class comprehensive, research-oriented and open university. Based on the status and target of the university, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences adapts itself to the requirements of economic construction and social progress in the new century for talent training and academic requirements. Adhering to the academic tradition of “integration of China and the West, integration of ancient and modern, integration of literature and science, and comprehensive innovation”, the faculty strives to achieve “daily humanistic innovation” in the three aspects of talent training, academic research and social service.  

        The faculty covers all level of tertiary education, namely undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels, and achieves the mutual support of various disciplines. The faculty currently has 8 undergraduate majors, 5 first-level discipline master’s programs, 2 professional master’s programs, and 1 first-level discipline doctoral program.

        There are 163 in-service teachers in the faculty, including 32 professors, 81 associate professors, 10 doctoral supervisors, and 60 master’s supervisors; Three members of the Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education; Three members of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Higher Education Institutions in Heilongjiang Province; 3 provincial-level teaching masters and 2 school -level teaching masters; Eight recipients of “Baogang” Excellent Teacher Award and four provincial-level teaching teams.

        In recent years, faculty teachers have undertaken 1 major project of the National Social Science Fund, 23 projects of the National Social Science Fund, 2 projects of the National Natural Science Fund, 2 national education planning projects, 2 new liberal arts research and reform practice projects of the Ministry of Education, 3 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, and 5 industry-academia-research projects of the Ministry of Education.  They undertake more than 100 provincial and ministerial teaching and scientific research projects.They win more than 120 national and provincial and ministerial teaching and scientific research achievements awards, publish more than 100 books and textbooks and more than 700 papers.

   Facing the new journey, telling the story of China well, showcasing the path, governance, and principles of China, is the historical mission entrusted to us by the times. At the beginning of the new century, the newly established Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Harbin Institute of Technology will set out from the overall goal of building Harbin Institute of Technology into a world-class university, adapt to the requirements of academic research and talent training in the new era. The faculty shall commit itself to inheriting excellent traditions, seizing the new opportunities of the times and social development, and comprehensively promoting the academic research, team building, talent training and other work of the college with a broader vision and broad mind. The faculty shall strive to create a new chapter of high-quality development of the new liberal arts of Harbin Institute of Technology, and make new and greater contributions to comprehensively promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese path to modernization.
